Wedding Photography Collage

Happy Earth Day! Click here to find out about the annual St. Louis Earth Day Festival.

Collage photo frames or individual photo frames clustered together can be mounted on a wall for visual appeal. Photography collages are one of the best ways to display a memorable photo collection. The black and white wedding photos featured are from a wedding in the 1940’s. The photos start with the beginning of the wedding ceremony at the top of the frame and have been placed chronologically to finish with the wedding reception at the bottom of the frame. The frame itself is part of a larger group of collage frames exhibited in a hallway in order to show a lifespan of family history.

Shadowbox Memorabilia Wall Display

A shadowbox was filled using an assortment of seashells including a starfish and a tiny seahorse. The collection was amassed from adventurous travels to beaches around the world. The beautiful seashell souvenirs are now lifelong reminders of wonderful past experiences. In order to create a pleasing composition within the shadowbox, the color, texture, and scale of the seashells was considered before fixing the treasures behind the glass. The result is an attractive glass treasure box displayed on the wall to capture memories of sandy beaches and ocean waves splashing on the shore.

CD and DVD Entertainment Cabinet Organization

A small CD and DVD storage cabinet needed consolidating as music and entertainment discs were in multiple locations. Small plastic baskets were purchased to accommodate the CD and DVD discs. The baskets are the perfect size to hold both types of items and they are stackable in order for a total of twelve to fit inside the small cabinet. The CDs have been sorted and alphabetized by the musical artist’s last name or the album name and the DVDs have been alphabetized by title and grouped by genre. After the baskets were filled with discs, tabbed dividers were added and labeled appropriately by alphabetical letter and category.

Music records and CDs can be organized using several different methods. Any musical record collection can be sorted alphabetically by artist or album or grouped alphabetically by genre. Rectangular shaped plastic crates designed for legal size file folders are great for storing records. Instead of the stark appearance of the plastic crates, fabric crate covers can be sewn together for a softer look. A variety of containers can be used to store CDs. When space is scarce, fabric or leather bound “books” can be purchased in lieu of plastic CD cases. If it’s preferred to keep CDs in their original container, the plastic CD cases can be stored in rectangular containers with or without lids and stacked on an open shelf or stored in a cabinet.

Commercial Kitchen Consolidation – Part 3

The cold food storage needed deep cleaning due to sticky food residues. All of the shelving was removed from all four refrigerators and freezers. After a thorough clean, the shelves were put back into their respective locations and the food containers were wiped clean and organized onto the shelves. All of the cold food storage items were rearranged considering the chef’s requests and general commercial kitchen operations.

A request was made to store sweet items on the left side and savory items on the right side of the small refrigerator and small freezer. The only appeal for the walk in refrigerator was to leave the third shelf on the left clear for special event food storage. Items like condiments that were scattered throughout the walk in refrigerator were consolidated and stored on the blue shelf in the middle for easy access. Fruits are now stored on the back left shelf and vegetables on the back right shelf. Meats are on the front left shelf below the event shelf. Eggs, dairy, and grains can be found on the front right shelf. The walk in freezer now has grains, breads, and meats on the left shelf. The entire back right shelf in the walk in freezer has boxes of frozen cookie dough. Ice cream can be found on the top shelves and vegetables on the bottom shelves of the front right shelf in the walk in freezer.

Commercial Kitchen Consolidation – Part 2

The food pantry had utensils, cups, bowls, and plates in abundance in the pantry area. Since the cups are used most frequently they were relocated to a base cabinet area at the service counter along with all the napkins and some utensils. Also, a white drawer unit and five stackable yellow bins were relocated from the food pantry and sink area and grouped together to hold miscellaneous supplies under the service counter. Some items now under the service counter include server aprons, table linens, and maintenance supplies. Only the bowls and plates remained in the food pantry since those items are not used as often. Popcorn supplies for the nearby popcorn machine have been stored in the base cabinets along with coffee and tea provisions which are brewed regularly. In another area, the cleaning supplies have been cleaned and consolidated under the washing sink.

Commercial Kitchen Consolidation – Part 1

Food, serving supplies, and appliances for a food pantry and storage area was untidy and sprawling. Two heavy duty metal shelving racks and other items became overflow storage outside of the commercial kitchen area and needed consolidating. The food pantry closet was reconfigured in order to add the two heavy duty metal shelving racks while the white drawer unit along with the four yellow stackable bins were relocated to different area. Once the food pantry metal shelving racks were rearranged, the items on the shelves were sorted and grouped according to size and type. All of the food items were shelved together as well as serving supplies, and appliances.

Food Event Storage Closet Organization

A storage closet for food events used by many different people was in need of some sorting. The items on the shelves in the closet have been sorted by type; wood, metal, ceramic, glass, and plastic. Lighter items have been stored on the top shelves and the heavier items have been stored on the bottom shelves. Items that needed to be stored in a different closet were set aside during organizing and moved into another storage space after all of the items were put in place. The event platters and containers have been sorted and are now neatly organized on the three existing shelves.

Decor Storage Closet Organization

A decor storage closet accessed by a variety of people became messy. There was broken glass on the floor and the space was hazardous to enter. After cleaning up the mess and safely disposing of the broken glass, all of the usable items that remained could be inventoried. Using the existing soda and milk crates, the candles were sorted by size and placed in the crates from smallest to largest. Similar items, such as vases, were grouped together by type, size, and color for a tidier, more accessible storage closet.

Laundry Room Base Cabinet, Supply Closet, and Linen Closet Organization

For a small laundry room with one set of base cabinets below the sink, it was necessary to add some open bins for easy access of laundry detergent and supplies. A nearby supply closet for cleaning materials, batteries, light bulbs, and other miscellaneous items needed more containers. All of the items have been sorted and grouped by type. The supply closet now has the lighter weight, more fragile items on the top shelf and the heavier weight, larger items on the bottom shelves. A linen closet in the master bathroom was also sorted and unused items were removed to create more space. Laundry, linen, and cleaning supplies are now consolidated and contained in their separate storage spaces.
